Preparations for the 2026 Madaraka Day national celebrations in Wajir County have reached 84 per cent completion, with the Government expressing confidence that all key works will be finalised ahead of the June 1 event.

The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, said the remaining works are expected to be substantially completed between May 20 and 25, allowing enough time for rehearsals, testing, and coordination before the national celebrations.

“We are pleased with the progress made so far. The preparations currently stand at 84 per cent and we expect that by between the 20th and 25th of this month, most of the key works will have been completed,” said Dr. Omollo.

The PS spoke after inspecting key facilities and ongoing works in Wajir, including the main celebration venue, supporting infrastructure, parade rehearsals, and logistical arrangements for the national event.

Preparations are already underway for parade training involving various security and ceremonial units expected to participate during the celebrations.

As part of the Madaraka Day programme, the Government will also host a thematic week from May 25 to 31 at Wagberi Primary School focusing on education, skills, and the future — themes aligned with this year’s celebrations.

Meanwhile, preparations are continuing at the official residence where William Ruto is expected to host a State luncheon for invited guests.

Dr. Omollo said taking the national celebrations to Wajir demonstrates the Government’s commitment to inclusive development, national integration, and equitable distribution of national events across the country.

He also urged members of the public to observe the official programme schedule, noting that the timings had been carefully planned to accommodate midday prayers observed in the region.

“We encourage all attendees to be seated by 8:00 a.m. as the celebrations will begin promptly to ensure smooth flow of the programme,” he said.

The Government has invited Kenyans from across the country to join residents of Wajir in marking this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations.

During the inspection tour, Dr. Omollo was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Culture and Heritage, Ummi Bashir, Ahmed Abdullahi, and officials from various ministries, departments, and agencies involved in coordinating the event.
