The High Court will today (Friday) deliver judgement in a case where former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe and her ex-fiancé Joseph Jowie Irungu are charged with the murder of late businesswoman Monica Kimani.  Trial Judge Grace Nzioka was to deliver the judgement last month but told parties that she received the exhibits which are crucial in helping her determine the case. The UN’s top court could issue emergency measures ordering Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza. The session of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday is part of a case brought by South Africa alleging that Israel is committing genocide. Both countries testified when the case opened two weeks ago. Israel has vehemently rejected the allegation. Legislators in the Florida House of Representatives on Wednesday approved what could be the strictest regulation on social media and kids in the country. Florida House Bill 1 would prohibit children under the age of 16 from using most social media platforms, regardless of parental approval. The social media platforms the bill would target include any site that tracks user activity, allows children to upload content or uses addictive features designed to cause compulsive use. A South Korean ruling party lawmaker, Bae Hyun-jin, was rushed to the hospital after an attack in Seoul’s posh Gangnam district Thursday afternoon. Bae, a member of the People Power Party and a former TV journalist, was hit with a palm-sized rock on the back of her head, an aide said. “She is conscious but is in shock after what happened. She is hospitalized after treatment and still suffering from dizziness due to the attack,” Na Kyung-beom, aide to Bae, confirmed to ABC News. Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has resigned, saying his party has been “contaminated” and “hijacked” by the government. “I will have nothing to do with sewer politics,” he said in a 13-page statement on Thursday. He won about 44% of the votes in last year’s presidential election which was plagued by allegations of foul play. South African gospel singer Kelly Khumalo ordered the murder of her then boyfriend, football star Senzo Meyiwa, a court has been told. Mr Meyiwa was shot trying to protect Ms Khumalo from armed robbers in 2014. Five suspects were arrested in 2020. Lead investigator Bongani Gininda told a Gauteng High Court, on Wednesday, Ms Khumalo orchestrated “a contractual assassination or hit”. Ms Khumalo’s spokesperson told the BBC they “trust in the legal process”. They added that Ms Khumalo could not comment but that her “legal team is actively addressing the situation”. An Alabama death row inmate is expected to become the first person in the US to be executed with nitrogen gas, after losing last-minute appeals. The US Supreme Court and a lower appeals court declined to block what Kenneth Eugene Smith’s lawyers called a “cruel and unusual” punishment. Opponents say using nitrogen could cause unnecessary suffering, and a leak could harm people present in the room. Smith, 58, was convicted in 1989 of murdering Elizabeth Sennett. Businessman Yagnesh Devani was finally been charged for stealing 318.656 Metric tons of Jet Fuel valued at USD 365,974.05 the property of Kenya Commercial Bank.  Devani has been on the run since 2008 when he is said to have committed the offence. A warrant of arrest was Thursday issued against a suspect who allegedly assaulted a British national in Eastleigh,Nairobi. The warrant against Abdihakim Saudi Jama was issued by Makadara Senior principal magistrate Hellen Onkwani after he failed to appear in court for the hearing of his assault case against Ayni Hussein Muhammud. Onkwani also cancelled Sh50,000 bond that the accused paid to have his freedom as he argued his case out of prison. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki Thursday transferred 12 County Commissioners in changes.  He also recalled five others to the headquarters in a move seen aimed at addressing cases of insecurity in the areas. Kindiki said this is aimed at enhancing service delivery within the National Government Administration cadres. He said 24 other county commissioners will not be affected by the reorganisation announced January 25. “The deployment has been re-organised as follows to take effect on 1st February 1, 2024,” he said. Kenya has discovered its first deposits of the valuable mineral coltan, the Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has said. The rare mineral is used to manufacture electric car batteries, mobile phones and other electronic devices. The Democratic Republic of Congo holds more than 70 percent of the world’s coltan reserves, which have for decades fuelled violent conflict in the east of the country. It is not clear how large the coltan deposits found in Kenya are. An autopsy done on the head of slain university student Rita Waeni Muendo showed she died out strangulation before she was decapitated. Her head was decapitated, carried away from the primary murder scene and dumped at a dam in Kiambaa, Kiambu County. Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor conducted an autopsy on the head at the City Mortuary before announcing she had been strangled. Four businessmen were Thursday charged with stealing 70,000 liters of diesel valued at a staggering Sh13.5 million.  They appeared at the Milimani Chief Magistrate Court, Nairobi. They are; Douglas Macharia Maina, Dominic Kimotho, Enan Njuguna Mweha, and Lewis Musau Masaku and were released on bail after denying the charges of stealing.
