Comedian Eric Omondi has been charged with taking part in an unlawful assembly along Parliament Road on Tuesday. The funnyman was charged at the Milimani Law Courts alongside 16 others. The Public Service Commission has increased the number of candidates on its shortlist for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) from 224 to 240. PSC issued a new list on Wednesday with an additional 16 candidates. “The Commission publishes the names of the shortlisted candidates. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s lawyer, Danstan Omari. The lawyer is required to appear before police senior superintendent Michael Sang at 9:30 am on Wednesday. Millers now want the government to pay the remaining Sh2.6 billion for the maize subsidy. In a statement released on Monday, Cereal Millers Association (CMA) Chief Executive Paloma Fernandes said millers sold flour valued at Sh4.3 billion, but only Sh1.7 billion was paid. The government implemented the maize subsidy scheme in 2022, from July 21 to August 17, to protect customers from the high cost of flour, which was then retailing at Sh230. Police have in custody a suspect in the killing of National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) manager, Lilian Waithera. According to Nairobi Police Commander Mr Adamson Bungei, the suspect has been identified as Julius Kimani Mwangi. Director of Public Prosecutions has withdrawn terror charges against journalist Laban-Cliff Onserio. The prosecution on Monday cited insufficient evidence as reason for withdrawal. Mr Onserio’s lawyer Ishmael Nyaribo said Kahawa Court magistrate Boaz Ombewa had marked the file as closed. Mr Nyaribo also noted that his client was yet to take a plea. A police officer is in custody after he allegedly struck a man with his gun butt in Kiambu county. The victim, Moses Kimani said that he had been assaulted by an officer assigned to VIP protection of the General Service Unit, over the weekend in Karunga village. A former Nakuru County police chief will face disciplinary action for his role in the eviction of more than 100 families, deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has said.
