Detectives are investigating an incident where suspected thugs raided a home in Lavington, Nairobi, and robbed the occupants of more than Sh2.6 million.

The money was in US dollars when it was stolen and was in two safes, the occupants, who are Chinese nationals, said.

They told police they were in their house at Henrick Villas on Sunday evening when four men drove into the compound.

The men had been let in by a guard on duty who said he was informed they were guests there.

The men then ordered the 12 Chinese nationals to lie down while armed with crude weapons before grabbing two small safes that contained the US20,000 and unknown amount of Kenya shillings, Chinese Yuan, Japanese Yen, five mobile phones, gold jewelry and their passports.

The gang escaped the scene soon after accomplishing their mission. Police were alerted and rushed to the scene and confirmed the same. The police said the gang had arrived in a salon car before embarking on their mission.

No arrest was made. One of the stolen mobile phones was found dropped on Amboseli Road, which is a few meters away from the scene.

The detectives handling the case said they were pursuing good leads into the attack.

They argued the gang knew about the presence of the cash in the house and they were working who may have tipped them off.

During the drama, the victims were slightly injured. A security guard who was on duty was detained for grilling as part of ongoing investigations into the attack. Such incidents usually happen with the help of insiders, police said.
