A police officer assigned to the elite presidential bodyguard team has taken his own life at his home in Juja, Kiambu county. Constable Samuel Ngatia, a member of Deputy President William Ruto’s security squad, died on Monday morning after shooting himself in the head. Two lawyers, Felix Kiprono and Vincent Yegon have filed a suit to challenge the ban on the phrase “hatupangwingwi” by the NCIC. Last week, NCIC through a presser released a list of 19 words that the commission labeled as hate speech. The list contains commonly used words such as ‘hatupangwingwi’ and ‘kama noma noma’. Casual laborers on a farm linked to Deputy President William Ruto in Mata village, Taita Taveta County, went on strike to protest non-payment of their wages, paralyzing operations. Workers staged a protest at the Kisima farm’s gate on Monday, claiming they had not received their wages in the last six weeks.
