The Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin has apologized for sharing misleading images allegedly taken on Monday during Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance protests. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has said that the decision to censure six TV stations over the coverage of Azimio protests was taken out of context. This was after a High Court suspended the censure of the TV stations; K24, NTV, Citizen TV, TV47, Ebru TV and KBC. Newly inaugurated Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) have suffered a blow after a High Court barred them from assuming office. Justice Hedwig Ongu’ndi ruled that the government officials should not receive their salaries or benefits until a case filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and Katiba Institute is heard and determined. “Having read through the annexures, I am satisfied that interim conservatory orders are necessary,” said the judge. Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party has informed the Nairobi Officer Commanding station of the upcoming demonstrations slated for Monday and Thursday. 50 newly inaugurated Chief Administrative Secretaries will be among the most highly paid civil servants following a review by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). An SRC advisory to the Public Service Commission (PSC) shows that a CAS’ monthly pay will rise from Sh765,188 to Sh780,000. “SRC has determined the monetary worth of the job of CAS at grade F1 and would like to advise on the attendant remuneration and benefits structure,” said SRC chairperson Lyn Mengich in a letter to PSC’s Anthony Muchiri. A bill allowing the Treasury to privatize publicly owned companies without the cumbersome approvals of Parliament has been adopted by the Cabinet. The measure will repeal the Privatization Act of 2005 and establish a new, more accommodating legislative and regulatory framework to manage privatization.
