Teachers will be badly hit if the current economic boycott crisis persists, the Kenya Union of Post Primary teachers (Kuppet) has warned. Police in Siaya are holding a 25 year old man suspected to have sexually assaulted and hacked to death a 72 year old woman at Lwala Koudia location in Siaya Township on Monday night. On Tuesday, Nairobi Governor settled a Sh185,000 medical bill following outrage by several youth at the Nazareth Hospital mortuary. This came after the youth stormed the mortuary demanding for the body of John Mwangi to be released after it had been held for almost a month. The Labour Court has ordered for the reinstatement of Kenya Airways’ former finance director, Alex Mbugua. Mbugua who had been sacked in 2016 was linked to the Sh29.7 billion loss that affected the airline in the 2014-2015 financial year. According to Tuskys CEO Dan Githua they have already began funding the restocking of Nakumatt Village Hypermarket and Nakumatt Ukay in Nairobi. On Monday, the Ministry of Education issued a notice stating that they have reduced the fees for secondary school students. According to the notice, secondary day school students will not have to pay while boarding students will pay a total of Sh53,000. “In order to ensure a 100 per cent transition for learners and remove burden from parents, the parent component of Sh9,374 has been taken up and as such, learners in day-schools will not pay any fees,” reads the notice in part. Reports released by the Controller of Budget have revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto spent over Sh1.02 billion within the last year ending in June. President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has received a major boost after eight Jubilee party governors pledged Sh100 million each to help fund a railway project. This pledge followed a consultative meeting which took place at the Maiyan Resort in Nanyuki County. The directive by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to downgrade its medical cover has been suspended. This follows a recent announcement by the insurance fund that members would only be given access to four outpatient visits within the course of 12 months. According to reports, Health Secretary Cleopa Mailu has suspended the decision by NHIF with immediate effect. “This is until further consultations are held between the NHIF board and other stakeholders.
