Konshens, whose real name is Garfield Delano Spence, is a prominent Jamaican dancehall singer, songwriter, and performer known for his energetic delivery, catchy hooks, and ability to blend traditional dancehall with contemporary sounds.

Born on January 11, 1985, in Kingston, Jamaica, Konshens grew up between the Up Park Camp military base—where his father served in the Jamaica Defense Force—and neighborhoods like Sherlock in the city.

He emerged as a singjay, combining singing and deejaying skills, and has become one of the most consistent and internationally recognized voices in dancehall music over the past two decades.

His stage name reflects a conscious, thoughtful approach to his craft and life.

    Siblings

Konshens has one sibling, a brother named Delmark Spence, better known as Delus.

Together, the brothers formed the duo SoJah in the mid-2000s, which marked Konshens’ entry into professional music.

Their collaboration produced early successes, including the hit single “Pon Di Corner,” which gained significant popularity in Japan and helped establish their name regionally.

    Career

Konshens’ career took off after he transitioned from the SoJah duo to a successful solo act around 2008–2010.

Early breakthroughs included dancehall anthems like “Pull Up” and “Good Girl Gone Bad,” which showcased his versatile vocal style and streetwise lyrics.

His debut solo album, Real Talk, released in 2010 (initially in Japan), was followed by projects such as Mental Maintenance (2012), Road Album (2014), It Feel Good (2018), RAW (2018), and later releases including Pool Party.

Konshens has collaborated with major international artists, contributing to global hits and expanding dancehall’s reach.

Standout tracks include “Bruk Off Yuh Back,” which achieved Silver certification in the UK, “Wine Pon You” featuring Doja Cat (which later earned Gold certification in Canada), and the Nipsey Hussle collaboration “Succa Proof,” which received a Platinum plaque.

He has toured extensively worldwide, performed at major festivals, and maintained a strong presence in Jamaica’s sound system culture while evolving his sound to incorporate elements of reggae, Afrobeats, and pop.

His entrepreneurial side has also seen him engage in business ventures alongside his music.

    Accolades

Early recognition came with awards such as the EME (Excellence in Music) for Best New Artiste and the Stone Love Best New Artiste award around 2008.

He has been named Velocity Award winner for Entertainer of the Year and has received various nominations and honors at Jamaican and international award shows.

His collaborations have brought additional certifications, including Platinum for work with Nipsey Hussle and ongoing streaming and sales milestones for solo and featured tracks.
