Legislators affiliated to the Tanga Tanga squad kept vigil at the Capitol Hill police station after five bloggers affiliated to Moses Kuria were arrested. The legislators; Kuria, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Kandara MP Alice Wahome and Nyandarua women representative Faith Gitau are said to have camped at the police station seeking the release of the five. According to charges by the police officers at the station, the bloggers are to face charges of inciting citizens and disrupting public orders. Kitui High Court judge Lilian Mutende narrowly escaped death in a grisly road accident on Monday, January 13. The accident is said to have taken place in Syongila area, along Machakos-Kitui road. According to Kitui County Police Commander Johanna Tonui, the judge and her driver were rushed to Kitui level Four Hospital for emergency treatment. They were later rushed to Nairobi for further treatment, although they are currently stable. Earlier reports indicated that the judge had complained of chest pains before being rushed to Nairobi. A photo-journalist attached to Nation Media Group has been clobbered by police officers in Mombasa while covering Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) protests. In photos circulating on social media, the journalist identified as Laban Walloga is seen scampering for safety with a camera at hand as the police officer holding a teargas canister and a baton goes after him. The journalist was covering protests by Mombasa residents and business men over the demerits of SGR that have negatively affected the economy of the region. The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force comprising of 14 members has been gazetted. The AIC Kijabe Mission Hospital in Kiambu County is set to send home 230 of its employees as from Tuesday January, 14. According to a local publication, an official at the facility indicated that the retrenchment letters are expected to be served to the employees beginning Tuesday 14, hence adding to the long list of unemployed Kenyans in the country. The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i has announced the reduction on the number of days one has to wait for a passport after application. The body of a woman who went missing on New Year, January 1, 2020 has been discovered buried in a shallow grave in Naivasha’s Karagita Estate. The mother of three, identified as Nancy Wangui, aged 32 is said to have disappeared after allegedly leaving for work in the wee hours of the morning. Local carrier Silverstone Air is at the edge of collapsing, two months after unending woes and is speculated to close operations in Kenya. A Kenyan passport according to a recent report has been ranked the 8th most powerful in Africa, and 72nd globally. Out of 107 countries in the world, the 2020 ranking by Henley Passport Index ranking released on Tuesday indicates that the Kenyan passport has strengthened its global ranking and moved two positions from last year’s 74th. On Wednesday, January 8, several major airlines were reported to have re-routed their flight to avoid airspace over Iraq and Iran following missile attack on US troops in Iran. A pastor, from a church in Mombasa County turned in a suspected member of the Al Shabaab militia group after making a confession. In a publication by the Standard, the suspect is said to have gone to the church for a confession, and disclosed to the pastor that he was part of the terrorist group.
