Controversy surrounds the Sh200,000 offered by the Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) to the family of Miriam and her daughter Amanda, who died in the Likoni tragedy. High Court judge Justice Luka Kimaru has faulted the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti for over-reaching himself and going beyond his mandate in billionaire Humphrey Kariuki’s case. According to Justice Kimaru, DCI Kinoti has taken over the tax investigations which was a case to be handled by the Kenya Revenue Authority. “The DCI has overreached himself by involving himself in tax investigations,” Justice Kimaru ruled. Consumers relying on super petrol and diesel for their day to day activities have a reason to smile after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Monday announced a Ksh4.76 and Ksh1.08 drop respectively in the October fuel prices review. The High Court through judge J.A Makau has suspended the arrest warrant issued against Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua over failure to honor summons detailing audit queries. The warrant was issued last week by the Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) alleging that the Governor had intentionally forfeited to attend the scheduled meetings. A new controversial anti-gay bill is set to be re-introduced in Uganda where offenders will be sentenced to death. According to the Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo, President Yoweri Museveni signed the bill into law in February 2014 in a bid to tighten the penalties on gay people.
