Police have released 27-year old Robert Gathogo Ngunjiri alias “Mnubi” who had been mistakenly named as a wanted terrorist. Mnubi, who was among the eight terror suspects wanted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) surrendered to Nyeri Police Station on Thursday. The suspect, who resides in Baraka estate, Kamakwa location, was held for questioning over links to terrorism. Kenya has as of January 13, 2022, Kenya has administered 10,974,305 vaccines across the country. Of these, 6,164,507 were partially vaccinated while 4,704,029 were fully vaccinated. Another 27,754 vaccine doses were administered to those aged between 15-18 years while 80,607 were booster doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who have received their first dose was 57.8%. Consequently, the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 17.3%. Two police officers suspected of killing a man while in custody will be detained for three more days to allow authorities to complete investigations. In a ruling by a Kisii Court, the officers will be detained for three more days before the case officially commences. The officers will undergo medical evaluation to ascertain whether they are fit to stand trial. An early morning grisly accident in Katangini, Kitui county has left three people dead and several others nursing serious injuries. Kenya’s Covid-19 positivity rate has dropped to 11.7% after 1,175 people contracted the virus in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s caseload to 315,665 with the cumulative tests so far conducted in the country to 3,127,480. The death toll is now at 5,472 after three patients succumbed to the virus. A family in Bondo, Siaya County is seeking justice after their kin, 25-year-old Vitalis Okinda died mysteriously while in police custody. Vitalis Okinda was reportedly arrested on January 8 for a minor traffic offence and had been held at Bondo Police Station. He was later reported dead although the family claims mischief. For instance, a day after he was arrested, the family received communication that their kin had passed on with no further information on the cause of his death. Three suspected kidnappers who had held a 23-year-old man hostage and demanded Sh300,000 were yesterday arrested in Githurai. According to the DCI, the three suspects, Dickson Mwendwa, 24, Robert Kioko, 23 and Philip Kilonzi, 28 were nabbed following an intelligence-led operation. Kenya Power has explained the cause of power outage experienced in different parts of the country this morning. Through a statement, the power company said it lost power supply due to collapsed towers on the Kiambere-Embakasi high voltage transmission power line at around 10:45am. “Our engineers are working to restore electricity supply as the repairs are being undertaken. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due cause,” Kenya Power said. They’ve however apologized to their customers for the inconvenience. The Government is working towards vaccinating a target population of 27,246,033 as the fight to eradicate the Covid-19 pandemic continues. Renowned human rights activist Okiya Omtatah has filed a petition in court seeking to have Deputy President William Ruto vacate office ahead of the 2022 polls.
