Political analyst Harman Bond Manyora was released on a personal bond of Sh2 million after he was charged before a Nairobi court with obtaining Sh516,000 from a businesswoman in a purported Nairobi Hospital tender deal.

Manyora was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai on Wednesday March 25 where he denied the charge.

According to the charge sheet, between August 15, 2024 and October 30, 2024, in Nairobi County, Manyora is accused of using fraudulent tricks to obtain Sh516,000 from Josphine Luceno Kavulani.

The prosecution alleged that the money was paid as consideration to facilitate the award of a tender Number at The Nairobi Hospital to Kavulani’s company, Sipho Construction Limited.

Court documents state that the complainant would not have paid the money were it not for the alleged fraudulent representations.

Defence lawyers Nelson Havi and Danstan Omari urged the court to release him on lenient bond terms, saying he is a well-known person, has a fixed place of abode, and is not a flight risk.

The defence also told the court that Manyora is a professor of English and literature at the university of Nairobi.

In his ruling, Principal Magistrate Mutai released the accused on a personal bond of Sh2 million.

The case will be mentioned on April 13, 2026 for pretrial purposes.

The saga at the Nairobi Hospital has seen a number of directors arrested and arraigned.

The prosecution, however withdrew charges of some of the officials in a turn of events.
