Kenya has announced 566 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours after a sample size of 5,344 was tested. The country’s caseload is now at 187,525. This brings the cumulative tests so far conducted to 2,001,786 with the positivity rate now at 10.6%. Of the cases, 546 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. Sadly, 11 deaths have been recorded bringing the cumulative fatalities to 3,716. At least 5 people have been reported dead and several others nursing serious injuries following an early morning accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. Through a post shared on Facebook, the accident involved a 14 seater matatu and a lorry. Most of the passengers who were in that matatu are reported to have died on the spot while others passed on while they were being ferried to the hospital. A Candidate shortlisted for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) position has been disqualified over a forged degree from the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU). This was communicated by the IEBC selection panel committee chairman Elizabeth Muli as the Interviews were scheduled to begin at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). The swearing-in of Ann Kananu as Nairobi Governor has been halted for the second time following an appeal by activist Okiya Omtatah. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is fighting to keep her home in Kitusuru, Nairobi following the eviction notice over rent arrears. A Nairobi-based police officer who fled after his lover fell from the balcony in Ngumba Estate has surrendered to the authorities. Police reports indicate that Kelvin Amwayi Yakhama who had been on the run for two days following the incident presented himself to the police station on Sunday night.
