Kenya has announced 284 new Covid-19 cases after 4,540 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The country’s caseload is now at 171,942. Katiba Institute has moved to court seeking to block the swearing-in of the 34 judges appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. In an application filed through lawyer Dudley Ochiel, the Institute argues that the move by the Head of State to appoint 34 judges and leave out 6 was undermining the judiciary and its independence. The officials from the Ministry of Education have converged in Naivasha ahead of the form one placement exercise. According to the officials, the placements will be released in two weeks’ time where the approximately 1.18 million KCPE candidates will be placed in different schools across the country. Unlike previous years where the placements were done just days after the release of KCPE results, this year’s exercise was stalled due to the Covid-19 pandemic among other issues. Laikipia residents have taken to the streets after an elderly woman died over what has been termed as negligence. Norman Mwongera, a police constable who had gone missing over two weeks ago with colleagues assuming that he was dead has resurfaced. According to a post on Facebook, Mwongera resurfaced at Basuba GSU camp in Lamu with gunshot wounds on his body. Students from Masinde Muliro University have decried insecurity in the Institution after one of their colleagues was sexually harassed and killed. Limuru MCA Joseph Kahenya has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman identified as Hellen at a club. Through a series of tweets shared by one Julius Omeka, the incident is said to have happened at Kwambira Club in Limuru County. A meeting held by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants at a Meru Hotel has been disrupted by police over lack of permit. Reports indicate that the area police boss said the aspirants had no permit to hold the meeting at the town hall.
