Ex-Nairobi county assembly speaker Alex Magelo has passed on at Nairobi Hospital. According to Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Magelo died after a short illness. The governor has described Magelo as a warrior in the community. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of one of our greatest sons and warriors of our community. An early morning accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway has left five family members dead. This has been confirmed by Coast traffic regional commandant Peter Maina adding that four other people have survived. Detectives have finally put together how they nabbed the main suspect in the murder of National Land Commission (NCL) employee Jennifer Wambua. Kenya has announced 568 new Covid-19 cases after 9,029 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The country’s caseload is now at 162,666. Sadly, 15 patients have succumbed bringing the country’s death toll to 2,865. Also, 173 patients have recovered, 130 of them from home-based care and 43 from various hospital facilities across the country. The cumulative recoveries are now at 110,653. The National Assembly held special sittings on Wednesday and Thursday to debate the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill among other matters. The slaughter and sale of donkey meat has been declared legal in Kenya by the High Court following a ruling on Thursday. Justice Richard Mwongo in his ruling lifted the prohibition for the slaughter of donkeys after the state failed to respond to an application challenging the legal notice. For instance, Star Brilliant Slaughterhouse had filed an application seeking to bar Agriculture CS Peter Munya and AG Kihara Kariuki from enforcing a legal notice that banned the slaughtering of donkeys. Detectives from the office of DCI are probing an incident where bullets were found stashed in a house in Lucky Summer area. A report by a local publication reveals that the incident was reported by the caretaker, Francis Barasa who is in charge of the said building owned by Hojan Investments. Residents of Narok County have decried the recurrent foot-and-mouth disease that broke out since February. According to the residents, the outbreak has affected the dairy cattle which has further resulted in secondary infections. Appearing virtually before the Senate committee on Monday, Agriculture CS Peter Munya revealed that some odd cases had been reported in areas neighboring Transmara. The CS revealed that the disease is mainly affecting cattle with a high mortality rate witnessed in calved. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has recommended the removal of Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo from the Justice and Legal Affairs (JLA) committee of the National Assembly. Tanzania President Samia Suluhu has landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for a two-day official state visit.
