This move follows revelations from a report by the Controller of Budget that counties are currently operating 1,854 commercial bank accounts, against the Public Finance Management…
The Judiciary has raised alarm over a massive Sh20.75 billion budget shortfall that it says is crippling the delivery of justice in Kenya. Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfridah Mokaya made the plea during a presentation of the State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice Report (SOJAR) for the 2023/2024 financial year before the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights. Mokaya said despite limited funds, the Judiciary had achieved significant milestones — including expanding High Court stations to 46 out of 47 counties and resolving over 509,000 cases, marking a 99% clearance rate. However, she warned…
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), in partnership with the international BioRescue consortium, is entering a critical phase in a bold scientific mission to save the northern white rhino (NWR) from extinction. After the death of the last male NWR, Sudan, in 2018, only two females—Najin and her daughter Fatu—remain. Both are housed at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. The current hope lies in advanced Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART), which scientists believe could bring new life to the nearly extinct species. The process involves collecting eggs from Najin and Fatu, then flying them to a lab in Cremona, Italy, within…

The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations has proposed widening the scope of the Colonial Reparations Bill, 2025 to include injustices committed after Kenya gained independence. During a session chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, members argued that limiting the Bill to colonial-era violations would ignore the pain many Kenyans have endured under successive governments since 1963. “Historical injustices are still going on right now in this country. We should not focus only on the injustices committed during the colonial period,” said Dullo. She added, “The proposed Bill should be expanded to address the injustices that Kenyans…

A new report by Usawa Agenda has revealed a sharp decline in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Kenya, even as more children continue to enroll in schools. The number of ECDE teachers dropped from 92,359 in 2019 to 69,561 in 2022, a major concern for the sector. The report also shows that student enrolment in ECDE centres rose by nearly 5% between 2018 and 2021, with more than 32,000 public ECDE centres currently in operation compared to 15,000 private ones. Although ECDE is managed by counties, the national government still plays a key role in providing policy guidelines,…

She explained that the decisions were made in accordance with the Constitution, the Criminal Procedure…
YouTube has announced that it will no longer monetize videos that lack real human input, including those using AI-generated voices, poorly edited compilations, or reused footage with no added value. The new policy, which took effect on July 15, 2025, marks a major change in how the platform rewards originality. Over the past year, YouTube has been flooded with what critics call “AI slop”—content made from synthetic voices, stock clips, and little or no commentary. These include fake movie trailers, TikTok-style quote videos, and silent slideshows. Though technically “new,” such content has been criticized as creatively empty. The wave of…
