Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has rejected a public appeal by one of his county residents to be his deputy. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a drop in petrol and diesel prices in the latest review. In the August review, petrol and diesel prices drop by Ksh2.86 and Ksh3.28 per litre respectively. However, the authority increased the price of kerosene by Sh1.98 per litre. The new price is a relief for petrol consumers after being on an upward trajectory in previous reviews. Canada has joined the United States and the United Kingdom to condemn the irregular arrest, detention and indictment of journalist Erick Kabendera by Tanzanian authorities. Kabendera was last week charged with three counts of economic crimes including assisting an organised crime racket, money laundering, and failing to pay millions of dollars in tax, all between January 2015 and July 2019. Thika Billionaire Humphrey Kariuki has stepped down as chairman of the Janus Continental Group (JCG). This comes five days after the Directorate of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered his arrest and eight others over Ksh41 billion tax evasion offence. All the 47 county assemblies have been given the go-ahead to debate the Third Way Alliance’s Punguza Mizigo bill. High Court Judge John Mativo on Tuesday lifted a gag order stopping county assemblies from debating the proposed amendment of the constitution after petitioners failed to appear in court. According to the DCI, the two, who were caught on CCTV camera hiding cocaine in a toilet, were arrested on Monday. Police in Mombasa have launched investigations into the death of a Kenya Defence Forces soldier whose corpse was found burnt in Likoni area on Sunday night. According to reports, the body of the soldier, identified as Corporal David Githinji Mwangi attached to Mtongwe Naval Base, was still smouldering inside a disused building about 300 metres from Mtongwe Navy barracks, where he was believed to be based.
