The government of Tanzania has banned caning of students in classrooms. The directive was issued by Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local governments Tixon Nzunda who was speaking during the launch of e-learning program in Mwanza, Tanzania. Nzunda, who is responsible for education matters in the country, stated that corporal punishment was one of the reasons why some learners are not doing well in class. Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has reiterated the need to equip students with skills to curb the increasing number of half baked graduates getting into the job market every year. Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker David Githanda on Tuesday resigned citing personal reasons. The ministry of interior has been alarmed following a recent shocking incident in Shinyalu where a man was caught on camera savagely hacking a helpless man with a panga. The cost of three helicopters acquired from a foreign supplier by the National Police Service (NPS) in 2018, was inflated by nearly Ksh1 billion, a new audit report by Auditor-General Edwar Ouko has revealed. According to the report, which Ouko tabled before parliament last week, officials at the ministry of interior increased prices of the new turbine engine helicopters by Ksh906.1 million up from the original bid price that the tender evaluation committee had recommended. Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has presented himself to the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission headquarters, Nairobi, over Ksh588 million corruption scandal. This comes two days after the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of the governor, his wife Susan Wangari and 11 other suspects linked to irregular procurement for upgrading several roads in Kiambu County.
