The government of Tanzania has banned caning of students in classrooms. The directive was issued by Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local governments Tixon Nzunda who was speaking during the launch of e-learning program in Mwanza, Tanzania. Nzunda, who is responsible for education matters in the country, stated that corporal punishment was one of the reasons why some learners are not doing well in class. Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has reiterated the need to equip students with skills to curb the increasing number of half baked graduates getting into the job market every year. Speaking during a stakeholder meeting of the Competency-Based Curriculum at Nairobi Primary School, Magoha ordered for the audit of doctorate courses offered by local universities. Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker David Githanda on Tuesday resigned citing personal reasons. Bomet County Governor Joyce Laboso is dead. Laboso died at Nairobi Hospital on Monday afternoon hours after her communication team revealed that the governor had been placed on full-time bed rest by her doctors. The ministry of interior has been alarmed following a recent shocking incident in Shinyalu where a man was caught on camera savagely hacking a helpless man with a panga. In a statement on Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i condemned the incident. The cost of three helicopters acquired from a foreign supplier by the National Police Service (NPS) in 2018, was inflated by nearly Ksh1 billion, a new audit report by Auditor-General Edwar Ouko has revealed. According to the report, which Ouko tabled before parliament last week, officials at the ministry of interior increased prices of the new turbine engine helicopters by Ksh906.1 million up from the original bid price that the tender evaluation committee had recommended. A class eight pupil from Kagaa Village, Ol Kalou constituency in Nyandarua County is fighting for her life at JM Level Four Memorial Hospital after she was defiled by a man who also attempted to kill her.
