Two men arrested for suspicion of selling counterfeit medicine in Mombasa have been charged. The two, Evans Makhulu, 39, and David Mudanya aged 40 years, were charged with being in possession of Trade Counterfeit Medicines. “The suspects were charged with being in possession of Trade Counterfeit Medicines C/section 32(a) as read with section 35(1)of the Anti-Counterfeit Act of 2008 among other charges,” the DCI said in a tweet. Police have launched investigations into allegations linking two Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Mombasa to local gangs and drug trafficking within the county. Reports indicate that the MCAs, who are said to be close to powerful individuals in the county, are behind “Wakali Kwanza” and “Wajukuu wa Bibi” criminal gangs that have been terrorizing locals. Police have gunned down one suspect believed to have been part of a five-man gang that hijacked a matatu at Sunlight area in Kisauni, Mombasa County. Mombasa County Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed the incident saying the gang armed with crude weapons including machetes, flagged down the matatu on Sunday at around 4am. Unknown assailants attacked ODM Party Chairman Philip Makabongo’s home on Saturday night torching two of his motor vehicles. Makabongo revealed that the two vehicles — Toyota Sprinter and Subaru — were torched within his compound a few minutes past midnight when he and his family were asleep. Eight people have been hospitalised after a bus they were travelling in lost control and overturned in Koreni area near Mpeketoni in Lamu County. According to a Kenya Red Cross report, the eight who sustained injuries, were rushed to Mpeketoni Sub-county Hospital. Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two people suspected of being behind making of fake travel documents in the country. The two, Mohamed Ismail Ibrahim and Ali Ibrahim Barow, were arrested on Saturday.
