Police in Mukaa, Makueni County identified the body of a woman who was found dumped on the roadside after murder elsewhere.

She was identified as Irene Wanjiku Ndebe, 54 and a lecturer at the Nairobi Technical Institute.

She had been reported missing on February 8, 2026 in Thindigua, Kiambu County.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation arrived at the mortuary as the identification went on.

Police said the body was found at the scene on February 7 with visible injuries and the motive of the murder is yet to be known.

A team of detectives is investigating the murder but no arrest had been made so far as of Thursday.

In Magunga, Homa Bay County, one Wycliffe Ochieng Anwonge, 26 was found lying dead in a maize plantation with deep cut wounds on the head and back.

Police said a panga believed to be a murder weapon was recovered at the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased had a dispute with his uncle over unknown reasons when he was attacked and killed. It is alleged that the deceased first cut the suspect on the left hand, inflicting a deep wound. In retaliation, the suspect disarmed the deceased and cut him on the head and back, killing him on the spot.

The body of the deceased was moved to St. Camillus Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination while the suspect was treated at Magunga Level Four Hospital and later referred to Migori County Referral Hospital for further treatment under police guard.

In Macalder, Migori County, One David Ochieng, 40 was killed in a gold mining site.

He had ventured into a tunnel for the gold when a wall detached and collapsed on him. He was rescued and rushed to the hospital where succumbed to the injuries, the police and his family said. Such incidents have been on the rise in gold mining sites amid calls for safety measures to be put in place for the workers.
