A 27-year-old man was shot and killed during a robbery mission in Obwolo area, Kisumu County.

Edward Osamba, 27 was a customer at a chemist in the area when a gang of three on a motorcycle struck on Wednesday, March 4 at night.

The gang had arrived and approached a chemist in the area before ordering the customers therein to get out along the Mamboleo-Guba Road.

They later ordered the victims to lie down when Osamba reportedly resisted. This prompted one of the gunmen to reach out for his G3 rifle which was in a bag and shot him in the head at close range.

Police and witnesses said the gang jumped onto their waiting motorcycle and escaped without stealing anything from the scene.

Police visited the scene and recovered two live ammunition of 7.62 X51 mm and two spent cartridges. The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said on Thursday the hunt on the suspected thugs was ongoing.

In Mandera Town, a man was shot and seriously wounded by unknown gunmen in an attack. The gunmen robbed him of his salon car in the attack on Wednesday morning and drove towards the Kenya-Somalia border.

Police said the incident happened in the Barawako area and the victim was hit in the head.

The victim was shot as he drove from his house by two gunmen who were on a motorcycle. A spent cartridge was recovered at the scene.

The victim was moved to the hospital for medical attention in a critical condition. The area has been experiencing such attacks from suspected al Shabaab militants who usually escape towards Somalia.

Kenya has sent more personnel to address the menace. And the police and a family of a university student are investigating the motive of an attempted suicide incident at Kenyatta University Hostel.

The fourth-year student escaped with injuries after jumping from the fifth floor of his hostel at the institution in Kiwanja Market, police said.

He was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition following the March 4, 2026 5 am incident.

Other students said they heard a loud bang and on checking they found the body lying on the floor before he was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
