Police in Matungulu Sub-county, Machakos County, have launched investigations after the body of a man was discovered stuffed in a sack and dumped in a dam under suspected murder circumstances.

The gruesome discovery was reported on the night of Friday, April 17, 2026, by a security guard at Kilimambogo Cottage.

Police said they were informed that a suspicious sack was floating in KwaMatinga Dam.

The informant suspected the sack contained human remains after noticing what appeared to be a head, hands and legs protruding from it.

Police responded swiftly and confirmed the presence of the sack in the water.

Upon retrieval, the sack was found to contain the body of an adult male believed to be about 35 years old.

The body had multiple visible injuries to the head, and a rope was tightly tied around the neck, suggesting possible strangulation.

Investigators also discovered two large stones inside the sack, believed to have been used to weigh it down and conceal the body beneath the water.

The scene was processed and the body was later moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination and identification.

Police have launched a manhunt for those behind the killing as investigations continue.

Elsewhere police in Kyuso Sub-county, Kitui County, launched investigations following a shooting incident that left a man seriously injured in Wemoyo area.

According to police, the incident occurred on April 17, 2026, at around 12:00 pm while two men were grazing livestock.

The victim was in the company of Peter Kasimu Muthui when they were allegedly attacked by three Somali herders armed with rifles.

During the attack, Masai sustained two gunshot wounds—one on the right lower leg (calf muscle) and another on the right elbow joint. His companion, Muthui, managed to escape unhurt.

Despite his injuries, Masai was able to walk to Mandongoi GSU Camp, where he received initial assistance before being escorted to Ngomeni Police Station to report the incident.

He was later taken to Mwingi Level Four Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police say the victim has indicated that he can physically identify the three attackers, a development that could aid in tracking down the suspects.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the assailants as investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack continue.
