Early Life
Bradley Edward Delp was born on June 12, 1951, in Peabody, Massachusetts, to French-Canadian immigrant parents, George and Pearl Delp. He grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts, alongside his sisters Dorothy and Phyllis. Delp’s interest in music began at age 13 when he saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Inspired, he taught himself guitar and began performing in local bands during high school, including the Iguanas and the Monks.
After graduation, he worked making heating coils for Mr. Coffee machines while performing at clubs in his free time.
Career with Boston
In 1969, guitarist Barry Goudreau introduced Delp to Tom Scholz, who was seeking a singer for demo recordings. Delp joined Scholz and Goudreau in the band Mother’s Milk, which eventually signed with Epic Records and was renamed Boston.
Boston’s self-titled debut album (1976) peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the charts for 132 weeks, eventually selling over 17 million copies. The album produced hits like:

Death
On March 8–9, 2007, Brad Delp died by suicide at his New Hampshire home at age 55. He used carbon monoxide poisoning, placing charcoal grills in his bathroom. His death shocked fans worldwide and led to widespread mourning in the music community.
After his passing, former Boston fan and musician Tommy DeCarlo became the band’s new lead vocalist.
