Brady Tkachuk stands as a dynamic force in the National Hockey League, embodying the gritty, high-energy style that has defined his family’s legacy in the sport.

Born on September 16, 1999, in Scottsdale, Arizona, during his father Keith’s tenure with the Phoenix Coyotes, Tkachuk grew up immersed in hockey culture.

As the captain of the Ottawa Senators, a role he assumed at the age of 22, Tkachuk has become a symbol of leadership and resilience for one of the NHL’s up-and-coming franchises.

His journey from youth leagues to professional stardom reflects not just talent but an unyielding competitive drive, often drawing comparisons to his NHL All-Star father and his equally accomplished brother.

    Siblings

Brady’s older brother, Matthew Tkachuk, born in 1997, is a star forward for the Florida Panthers, where he played a pivotal role in securing back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025.

Matthew, an alternate captain known for his provocative play and clutch performances, shares Brady’s hard-nosed style, inherited from their father.

The brothers, often dubbed the Bash Brothers for their physicality, finally teamed up on the international stage at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, representing Team USA with immediate intensity.

Complementing the duo is their younger sister, Taryn Tkachuk, an accomplished field hockey player who competed at the NCAA Division I level for the University of Virginia Cavaliers.

    Career

Tkachuk’s professional trajectory has been marked by rapid ascent and steady growth, transforming him from a top draft prospect into a cornerstone leader for the Ottawa Senators.

His path began in youth hockey with the St. Louis AAA Blues U16 team, followed by two standout seasons with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

Committing to Boston University, Tkachuk played one season for the Terriers in 2017-18, recording 14 points in 19 games and earning All-Hockey East Rookie Team honors before declaring for the NHL Draft.

Selected fourth overall by the Senators in 2018, he signed a three-year entry-level contract and bypassed further college play, signaling his readiness for the NHL.

Tkachuk’s league debut came on October 8, 2018, against the Boston Bruins, and two nights later he delivered a multi-goal performance against the Philadelphia Flyers, becoming the quickest Tkachuk to score in the NHL.

Early challenges, including a torn ligament that sidelined him for a month in his rookie year, tested his resolve, yet he rebounded to post 45 points in 71 games and tied a franchise record with 12 shots on goal.

The 2019-20 season saw Tkachuk notch 44 points, earning his first NHL All-Star nod, while 2020-21 brought 36 points in 56 games despite team struggles.

His breakout arrived in 2021-22 with a career-high 67 points, paired with a seven-year, 57.5-million-dollar extension that underscored his value.

Weeks later, on November 5, 2021, he became the youngest captain in Senators history at age 22.

Under his leadership, Tkachuk elevated his game with 83 points in 2022-23, 74 points in 2023-24, and 55 points in 72 games the following year despite a thumb injury.

Internationally, he earned gold at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship, bronze at the 2018 World Juniors, contributed to Team USA’s 2024 IIHF efforts, and starred in the victorious 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.

Across 517 games as of late 2025, he has accumulated 408 points, including 191 goals, while leading Ottawa’s 2025 playoff push with seven points in six games.

    Accolades

At Boston University, Tkachuk earned All-Hockey East Rookie Team distinction in 2017-18, Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors on March 26, and two Hockey East Top Performer recognitions in November 2017 and January 2018.

In the NHL, his rookie season secured him a spot on the 2019 NHL All-Rookie Team.

His consistent production earned four consecutive NHL All-Star Game appearances from 2020 to 2024.

Off the ice, he has received three King Clancy Memorial Trophy nominations, most recently in 2025, recognizing leadership and community involvement through his Tkachuk Captains foundation.

On the international stage, he claimed gold at the 2017 IIHF World U18 Championship, bronze at the 2018 World Juniors, and helped secure the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off title.

Career milestones include the fastest goal by a member of the Tkachuk family, his first hat trick against Tampa Bay in 2021, and a Gordie Howe hat trick in 2022.
