Former Minister, Chirau Ali Makwere arrived at the EACC offices shortly after NLC Chairman, Muhammed Swazuri was arrested to show solidarity to his fellow clansmen.

The minister was at first denied entry and was forced to wait outside with the journalists present.

He shared that he was only there to know about the circumstances surrounding Swazuri’s arrest as they both hail from Kwale County.

“I am a Kenyan, if any Kenyan has a problem, it is my right to know what the problem is. I come from Kwale, if anybody from Kwale has a problem, I need to know what that problem is. I am a Digo from Kwale, if a Digo has any problem, I need to know what that problem is because I belong to that community. I have to try and rescue him.” Makwere said.

“I have received several phone calls from Kwale and my people have asked me to come here and see what is wrong with our brother Mohammed Swazuri,” he added.

The National Lands Commission Chairman, Mohammed Swazuri was arrested on Saturday morning among other officials including Kenya Railways Commission boss, Atanas Maina.

They were arrested to be charged with fraudulent payments of the SGR lands and were held at the EACC offices in Integrity Center. They are set to be arraigned in court on Monday.
