BBC Journalist Ciru Muriuki recently underwent a surgery to remove endometrial cells which cause endometriosis. The disease affects women when the endometrial cells grow outside the uterus leading to intense pain during menstruation.
Ciru initially shared about her journey after Radio personality Jahmby Koikai came out to campaign about the same disease which left her bedridden every month.
After her surgery, Ciru tweeted that she is hoping for the best.
Currently in post-endometriosis surgery recovery. I'm sore but relieved. Hopefully this surgery goes some way in alleviating my chronic pain. #endometriosis #endowarrior 💛

Jahmby Koikai, who is also a victor of the same disease, underwent surgery in Atlanta after living with the disease for over a decade.
The cost of getting medication for the disease is very high, causing many girls to suffer in silence. Some get diagnosed at a late stage when the disease has become chronic, like Jahmby’s case.
Luckily both presenters found treatment and are recuperating well.
