Royal Media’s Citizen Tv is the most watched television station according to a recent research by Geo Poll. According to the report which covers the first quarter of 2018, the station overshadows her competitors at 22% of the total audience despite a drop of 5% from the previous quarter.
Kenya Television Network (KTN) comes a distant second at 11%, two points ahead of the second runners up, NTV. KTN News is ranked fourth at 9% followed closely by K24 at 8%, closing the list of the big five.
Citizen TV gets most of its viewers during peak hours (1900hrs -2130), registering an average of 1.7 million viewers every hour. During the same period, KTN follows with an average of 800,000 viewers with NTV following closely with almost the same number of viewers.
On the radio segment, Radio citizen leads the pack at 13%, a drop of 2% from the previous quarter. Standard Group’s Radio Maisha is the second leading station with an audience share of 12%, retaining its previous market share. Radio Jambo retained the third position at 8%, a 1% increase from the previous quarter. Classic 105 and Kiss FM tied at 7%, classic having improved by one point from the third quarter of 2017.

“Radio listeners in the first quarter 2018 tend to be loyal to Radio Citizen throughout the day with its highest audience being observed during the morning show with over 1.3 million unique listeners,” observes the report. Radio Maisha follows the same trend, with most of its listeners tuning in during the morning show, captained by Alex Mwakideo and comedian Cleophas Awinja alias Captain Otos.
