A 17-year-old boy died after allegedly being attacked and stabbed by a group of youths in Kuria East, Migori County.

The deceased was attacked on Saturday evening, October 3, 2026, before being rushed to Getende Nursing Home for treatment.

According to police, the boy’s uncle received information at around 7pm that his nephew had been attacked and taken to the health facility.

On arriving at Getende Nursing Home, the uncle was informed that the teenager had been referred to Kegonga Sub-County Hospital for further treatment.

However, the teenager succumbed to his injuries while at the facility.

Police officers led by the Kegonga Sub-County Police Commander and detectives from DCI Kuria East visited the hospital and found the body with a stab wound on the left armpit.

The body was later moved to Wima Hospital Mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

Meanwhile, police fired shots into the air and used tear gas to disperse a group of youths who allegedly turned unruly during the burial of a suspected criminal in Kajulu, Kisumu County.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after police received intelligence that the burial of Benson Ouma Ndolo, described by police as a known criminal in the area, could be used as an opportunity by suspected criminals to plan or engage in illegal activities.

Ndolo’s body had arrived at his home at around 10am from Jaramogi Odinga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. However, youths reportedly removed the body from the homestead and took it to an unknown location.

Police later received information that the body had been hidden at a home. Officers recovered it and returned it to the family home at around 2pm to allow burial arrangements to proceed.

However, youths armed with crude weapons, including pangas, knives and rungus, reportedly blocked the family from burying the deceased, saying they wanted to celebrate him as their “fallen hero.”

Police intervened, but the youths allegedly became unruly, took the casket again and pelted officers and members of the public with stones.

The confrontation turned chaotic, prompting police to fire into the air and use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Police reported firing one tear-gas canister, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition and 52 rounds of 7.62mm blank ammunition.

During the confrontation a police officer, was struck on the right shoulder by a stone. He sustained a slight injury and was treated at Obwolo Dispensary before being discharged in fair condition.

The burial eventually proceeded peacefully at around 6pm.

Five people were arrested in connection with the incident.

Police said the five were armed with crude weapons and were escorted to Gita Police Station, where they are expected to face charges of preparation to commit a felony.

A red Honda 125cc motorcycle, believed by police to belong to one of the suspects, was also recovered at the scene and detained at the police station.
