A student at the Kitale Polytechnic is admitted in a hospital after he was shot and seriously wounded in an altercation with a gunman in Kibomet area, Kitale Town.

A police officer attached to the Kitale police station was on Thursday arrested and detained pending arraignment over the shooting.

This was after an identification parade was conducted at the station and some witnesses identified the officer as the one who shot the student.

The victim was shot at the Norec Shopping Centre at a pool table site where he and his colleagues were playing on October 22 morning.

Witnesses claimed the gunman was a police officer attached to the local police station.

Police rushed to the scene and found blood stains outside a pool table shop while two spent cartridges of 9mm and one bullet head were recovered.

Witnesses told police there was an altercation between the assailant and the student before he was shot at close range in the stomach. The assailant who was on a motorcycle escaped the scene. He was later identified as a police officer at the local station.

The police said they are investigating the incident. The victim was admitted at the Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital in a critical condition.

Elsewhere in Jomvu, Mombasa County, a woman survived with injuries after being pushed off from the first floor of an apartment.

The woman told police she had an altercation with the husband before he turned violent and pushed her off the balcony on October 22, 2025 at 1 am.

The victim was admitted at a local hospital in stable condition.

The police said they are looking for the husband of the woman for grilling over the claims.

And police are investigating an incident where a man was found dead after being hit by a train in Industrial Area on the Ruiru-Nairobi railway line.

The body was found on the railway long after the incident on Wednesday.

The police said they were informed the man was crossing the railway line when he was hit by the train. Such incidents have been common with officials blaming lack of care by the victims while crossing the railway lines.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy.
