Police in Mumias West Sub-county, Kakamega County, are investigating the murder of a 20-year-old man whose body was found inside a shop in Musanda area on May 6, 2026.

The deceased, identified as Duncan Oduor Omung’ala, was discovered at around 12:50 p.m. lying in a pool of blood, with his hands tied.

He had visible injuries on the head and neck, as well as a deep cut on the upper abdomen. Investigators also noted signs of a struggle inside the shop.

Authorities recovered two mobile phones belonging to the deceased and Sh3,000 in cash at the scene.

Police officers visited the scene and began processing evidence.

However, the situation escalated when a crowd gathered at the scene turned hostile, disrupting efforts to remove the body.

The officers were forced to call for reinforcement, with additional teams drawn from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), and a K9 unit.

Upon arrival of the reinforcement team, the crowd reportedly became more aggressive and began pelting stones at officers.

During the confrontation, several officers were injured, including the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Dalip Haithar, who sustained injuries to the face.

The head of DCI Mumias West suffered injuries to the back shoulder.

Police responded to the unrest by firing both live and blank ammunition and deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The body was eventually removed and taken to Butere Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Authorities say the motive behind the killing remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

Locals demanded justice to the murder saying the killers were roaming the area.

And police in Bungoma South Sub-county arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 38-year-old man who succumbed to injuries sustained in an assault in late April.

The deceased, Isaac Wamalwa, reportedly died on May 6, 2026, at around 4:30 a.m. while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bungoma.

According to police, the victim was initially assaulted on April 26, 2026, allegedly by his cousin. He was rushed to Mangas Hospital in Bukembe before being referred to Webuye Sub-County Hospital for further medical attention after doctors established he had suffered a severe head injury.

Subsequent medical examinations indicated that the victim had sustained a skull fracture caused by a blunt object. He was later transferred to Fountain Hospital in Bungoma on April 27, 2026, where he continued receiving treatment until his death.

Police confirmed that the suspect has since been arrested and is in custody pending further investigations.

The body has been moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

    Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
