Daniel Leonard Nigro, born on May 14, 1982, in Massapequa Park, New York, is an acclaimed American record producer, songwriter, and musician.
Raised in a creative household with parents Louis, a second-generation business owner, and Claire, an oil painting artist, Nigro’s early exposure to music and the arts shaped his path.
He took piano, guitar, and voice lessons during his youth and attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through high school, later enrolling at Fordham University.
Initially gaining recognition as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the indie rock band As Tall As Lions, Nigro transitioned into a powerhouse producer and songwriter, collaborating with artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Conan Gray.

Career
Nigro’s musical journey began with As Tall As Lions, a band he co-founded with high school friends in 2001.
As the frontman, he honed his skills in melody and songcraft, releasing their first EP, Blood Aphorisms, in 2002.
After the band disbanded, Nigro moved to Los Angeles, initially collaborating with childhood friend Justin Raisen and producer Ariel Rechtshaid.
His early success came through writing a McDonald’s jingle, which opened doors to work with artists like Sky Ferreira and Carly Rae Jepsen.
Feeling limited as a songwriter, Nigro taught himself production to gain creative control, a decision that defined his career.
His breakthrough came with Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album SOUR (2021), which he co-wrote and produced, followed by her sophomore album GUTS (2023).
Nigro also played a pivotal role in Chappell Roan’s rise, founding Amusement Records to release her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, after she was dropped by Atlantic Records.
His work extends to artists like Conan Gray, Kylie Minogue, and Caroline Polachek, showcasing his versatility in pop, indie, and emotional songwriting.
Accolades
Nigro has been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards, winning two: Best Pop Vocal Album for Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR in 2022 and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical in 2025.
In 2024, he was named Producer of the Year by Variety’s Hitmakers and Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards, alongside Rodrigo.
