Kenya Airways has announced new appointments to its board of directors, including prominent economist Dr. David Ndii as Non-Executive Director.
Dr. Ndii, Chairperson of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, is an experienced economist, author, and strategist. He holds advanced degrees from the University of Oxford and the University of Nairobi, and is a Rhodes Scholar and Eisenhower Fellow. He has played key roles in shaping Kenya’s economic policy, including leading the Economic Recovery Strategy for the NARC administration and advising on the country’s constitutional review process. Dr. Ndii has also served as advisor to the President of Rwanda, worked with international financial institutions, and held senior positions such as Chief Economist at Equity Bank and economist at the World Bank. He is the founder of the Institute of Economic Affairs (Kenya) and Africa Economics.
The airline also appointed Kiprono Kittony as Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director. Kittony currently chairs the Nairobi Securities Exchange and is known for revitalizing the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He has co-founded and led several major organisations, including CreditInfo CRB Kenya, Mtech Limited, Betway Kenya, and Radio Africa Group. Internationally, he advises IFHA, a private equity fund in Amsterdam, and serves as Vice Chairman of the World Chambers Federation in Paris. Kittony holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law from the University of Nairobi, and a Global Executive MBA from USIU and Columbia University. In 2019, he was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by President Uhuru Kenyatta for his contributions to business and youth mentorship.
Chris Diaz was also named Independent Non-Executive Director. Diaz is a global business leader with over 34 years of experience in strategy and corporate governance. He currently serves as Chairman of Adili Group, Director at ALN Africa and the Middle East, and Group Director at Bidco Africa. Diaz has contributed to aviation in Kenya through Kenya Airways and the Kenya Airports Authority. He is a fellow of the Marketing Society of Kenya, the first African to win the Global Marketing Leader of the Year award, and a recipient of the Elder of the Burning Spear honor. Diaz is a certified coach and mentor, having advised nearly 3,000 African companies.
Prof. Winnie Iminza Nyamute joins the board as Independent Non-Executive Director. Nyamute is an Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi with over 30 years of experience in finance and accounting. She has mentored students and guided University teams to success in the CFA Institute Global Research Challenge. She also serves on boards including the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Sameer Africa Plc, and Family Bank Limited. A Certified Public Accountant and ICPAK Fellow, she has focused on corporate governance and empowering women entrepreneurs.
