The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has completed investigations into a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, at C & M Lounge in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

According to an official update, investigators moved swiftly to secure and process the crime scene shortly after the incident.

A team led by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCIO) Isinya, working alongside crime scene personnel, documented the area and collected key exhibits, including spent cartridges, which were preserved for forensic examination.

On January 26, 2026, a specialized team from the National Forensic Laboratory — comprising experts in ballistics, imaging and acoustics, and crime scene analysis — conducted a comprehensive examination of the scene.

Additional evidence was gathered, including CCTV footage from the premises and surrounding areas. Three firearms surrendered by individuals under investigation were also submitted for ballistic testing. The forensic report was later received and incorporated into the investigation file.

In total, 11 individuals recorded statements to assist in reconstructing the events leading to the shooting.

    Charges Recommended

Upon concluding the probe, the SCIO Isinya forwarded the duplicate investigation file, along with detailed findings and recommendations, to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Kajiado on February 2, 2026.

Investigators have recommended that five individuals be charged with murder, contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, in relation to the death of Kevin Shepashina Maseli and attempted murder, contrary to Section 220 of the Penal Code, in relation to Joseph Kasio, who remained hospitalized at the time of the report.

The DCI indicated that it is now awaiting legal guidance from the ODPP on the way forward.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served through due process, emphasizing the importance of impartial investigations and accountability in serious criminal cases.

Further action will be taken once prosecutorial directions are issued.
