Deitrick Haddon is a prominent American gospel singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, record producer, and pastor.
Born Deitrick Vaughn Haddon on May 17, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan, he grew up in a deeply religious household.
His mother, Prophetess Dr. Joyce Haddon, and his stepfather, Bishop Clarence Haddon (who adopted him and gave him the Haddon surname), were both ministers.
Bishop Haddon founded and pastored the Unity Cathedral of Faith, a Full Gospel church on Detroit’s west side, where music played a central role in engaging the community, including through innovative elements like Trinidadian steel drum classes incorporated into services.
Siblings
Deitrick has four siblings, namely Gerald Haddon, Zina Kirksey, David Haddon, and Clareta Haddon-Jackson.
Deitrick has a close relationship with his brother Gerald Haddon, a fellow gospel artist and producer with whom he has collaborated professionally, including on projects like producing the comeback album Brand New Day for veteran gospel singer Vanessa Bell Armstrong.

Career
Haddon’s career spans decades and has significantly influenced contemporary gospel music by blending traditional elements with modern, progressive sounds.
He first gained recognition in the mid-1990s as the leader of the group Deitrick Haddon & Voices of Unity.
His debut major project, Chain Breaker (released around the turn of the millennium as a double-disc set), became a groundbreaking work that produced numerous radio favorites and helped redefine urban contemporary gospel.
Subsequent solo albums like Lost & Found (2002) and others built on this momentum, earning him consistent chart success, including multiple top-10 placements on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and number-one hits such as “Open Door Season” and “A Billion People.”
Over the years, he has amassed more than two dozen radio hits and continued releasing music while expanding into production and pastoral work.
In addition to his music, Haddon has pastored churches, including co-pastoring Kingdom Culture Church in Detroit (founded by his father) with his first wife, and later founding Hill City Church in Los Angeles with his current wife, Dominique Haddon, where he serves as senior pastor and she as executive pastor.
Accolades
Haddon has received three Grammy Award nominations, including for Best Gospel Song (“Have Your Way” in 2014), Best Traditional Gospel Album (2009), and Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album (Lost & Found in 2003).
He is a multiple Stellar Gospel Music Awards winner, with honors including Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Choir of the Year (for Deitrick Haddon’s LXW), and Male Artist of the Year in 2015.
Additional accolades include multiple Dove Award nominations and wins, such as for Urban Album of the Year, along with Gospel Music Workshop of America awards for projects like Live the Life (New Artist of the Year: Urban Contemporary and Album of the Year: Urban Contemporary in 1997).
