The decomposed body of a man believed to have been murdered was found floating on River Nyamindi, Kirinyaga County.

Police suspect the victim was killed elsewhere and the body was dumped in the flooded river.

Police visited the scene and established the body had a deep cut on the neck and right arm dismembered and missing.

The body was retrieved from the river with joint effort from members of the public.

There were indications that he was murdered and body dumped into the river after the heinous act.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known and the body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy and other procedures.

Police said they were investigating murder in the incident.

Meanwhile, two people drowned in separate incidents reported to police.

In Karangatha area, Nyandarua County, the body of one Joseph Karanja Wanjiru who had been reported missing on March 20, 2026 was seen floating at Kaminiru River.

The search for the victim ended Tuesday after the family together with other members of the community spotted the body of the deceased floating at the said river.

Some of the clothes including the trouser had been swept away by the strong waves of the waters and the body had visible bruises on the face and had already started decomposing.

In Ngorika, Nyandarua area, one Daniel Muthee Mwei, 31 was found dead along Kanjuiri road and partly submerged by roadside flowing water.

Preliminary findings insinuate that the deceased may have been drunk and fell into the trench thereby was unable to help himself leading to the drowning.

The body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

Drowning incidents have been on the rise amid calls for caution because most rivers and streams are swollen due to heavy rains being experienced.

At least 90 people have died in the incidents reported in the past three months, statistics show.

Many others have been displaced by the floods amid warnings of more such incidents in the coming days.
