Doctors on Monday officially registered a signed CBA between the union and the county governments.

Three of the 47 counties were however not registered as they lacked letters from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

“With the registration, this document then becomes binding. A CBA has timelines and a structure in a way in which the union and the employer can engage freely,” KMPDU secretary general Ouma Oluga said.

Speaking to the media outside the Milimani court, Mr Oluga said the registration was a milestone and meant that they were indebted to the public.

“We must put a united front since this is the first CBA to be registered in the public health sector. We now owe the public a better health system,” he added.

“…And the doctors for never giving up on the healthcare system…..that is why we pursued this matter with a lot of vigour.”

Doctors called off their 100 days strike in March after successfully pushing for the implementation of a 2013 collective-bargaining agreement that committed the government to increase pay and restore dilapidated public health facilities, among other issues.
