A brother to the late Malava Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi is dead.
Samuel Injendi died a day before his younger brother passed on in Nairobi.
Malulu died on Monday at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
Samuel died while undergoing treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital on February 16.
It’s now double tragedy for their kin who are coming to terms with burying two of their sons.
The MP’s death happened just as the family was organising a fundraiser to foot his elder brother’s hospital bill.
Samuel’s burial plans were yet to commence.
The harambee was scheduled to take place on Wednesday February 19, ahead of his burial on Saturday, the family said.
Samuel, 80, was a retired prisons officer and had been ailing for some time.
The family said the activities, which had been lined up for his funeral will proceed as earlier planned even as the family mourns the loss of his MP brother.
Several leaders have mourned the death of Malulu.
President William Ruto said Malulu was a towering leader who selflessly served the people of Malava Constituency.
“A believer of equal opportunities, Mheshimiwa was diligent, focused and devoted to public service. He will best be remembered for his passion for education. Our prayers are with the family, friends and the people of Malava at this painful time,” he said.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said death has robbed Kenya of a dedicated leader and friend of many.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said he was a dedicated legislator and Vice Chair of the National Assembly’s Education and Research Committee and served with unwavering commitment.
“Having been elected under the Amani National Congress Party, which I led for nearly a decade, he was in his third term, an indication of the trust and confidence his constituents had in him.”
“Passionate, principled, and tireless in his advocacy, he worked relentlessly to uplift his people and advance education policy. His contributions in shaping key legislation will leave a lasting impact on Kenya’s education sector and beyond,” he said.
Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang paid tribute to Malulu’s service and faith, acknowledging his life as one dedicated to the glory of God and the welfare of others.
He said: “We give thanks for a life so well lived to God’s glory and in service to others. Give rest, O Christ, to thy servant with thy saints. May the Lord comfort his family, friends, and the people he served with such devotion.Rest in peace, Malulu Injendi.”
