Deputy President William Ruto is known for his dishing out of stupendous amounts of money, with the persistent question being where and how does he get his money.

Over the last week alone, the self professed hustler donated a whooping Sh.20 million.

At Nguviu Boys High School, the DP is said to have parted with Sh.5 million and later on in the day while at Kamama High School gave another Sh.5 million.

On Saturday, he donated the same amount of money while on a tour of the vote rich Tharaka Nithi County.

On Friday on Starehe MP Charles Njagua’s invitation, the DP again gave Pumwani Primary School Sh.5 million.

“We are engaging the Nairobi County government and MPs to expand the city’s education infrastructure, including constructing a technical training institute in each constituency, providing learning materials, strengthening the feeding programme, ensuring sufficient staffing and promoting a conducive school environment,” the DP said.

In 2017, he donated Sh.18 million in just two days, raising eyebrows.

Between October 1 and 2, Ruto was in Kisii county where he donated and/or pledged Sh.11 million to two secondary schools before heading to Bungoma county where he yet again donated and/or pledged another seven million shillings.

The DP is a well known businessman with stakes in a number of hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa. He has also been associated with Amaco Insurance, Merchant Assurance Company, Easton apartments in Eastlands, flats in Ongata Rongai and pieces of land scattered across the country.

NASA leader, Raila Odinga called out Ruto on his frequent countrywide tours and harambees but he quickly shut his critics down saying that one has a right to invest in whatever pleases them.

“You go around giving out money here and there and we know your salary,” said Odinga.

In fact, Ruto who is eyeing the Presidency come 2022, noted that he was investing in heavenly matters.

“Some people condemn me for going around, raising money here and there and in church. It’s up to them. I’m investing in heavenly matters. If you want to invest elsewhere, that is your right,” he said.

He later invited a lifestyle audit as ordered by his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta to end “what’s going on in the rumour mill and half-truths.”

According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the President and Deputy President earn a monthly gross salary of Sh1.4 million and Sh1.2 million, respectively.
