The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four traffic police officers accused of soliciting and receiving bribes from motorists, matatu operators, and truck drivers along the Nairobi–Nyeri–Embu Highway.

In a statement on Thursday, August 28, 2025, EACC said the arrests followed an undercover operation after members of the public reported rampant extortion along the busy highway.

Those arrested include Georgina Syokau, Robert Mwenda, and Gladys Cherono, all attached to Makutano Traffic Base, as well as Pauline Anyango from Juja Traffic Base.

“The suspects were escorted to the EACC Integrity Centre in Nairobi for processing and to record their statements,” EACC said.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the officers are expected to face corruption-related charges once the process is complete.”

Early this year, EACC arrested five traffic police officers for extorting motorists in the Ekero area along the Kakamega–Bungoma Road in Mumias, Kakamega County.

The five were Senior Sergeant Julius Kiprotich, Corporal Edna Jeruto, and constables Caroline Emong’ole, John Sugut, and Eric Otwane.

According to EACC, the officers were demanding money from motorists under the guise of traffic enforcement without carrying out any checks on the vehicles.

“During the arrest, one suspect attempted to escape on a motorcycle, but riders who had gathered in support of the operation refused to transport him,” EACC added.
