Police in Makueni Sub-county Wednesday launched investigations into the killing of a 74-year-old man whose body was discovered along a village footpath in Iuani Location.

According to police, the body of Patrick Muema Mulwa was found at Wanziu Village by his relatives.

The deceased had reportedly left home the previous evening at about 5:00 p.m. to deliver milk to a nearby centre but did not return. His wife later found him lying in a pool of blood approximately 100 metres from their home.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased had sustained two deep cuts on the head. Blood was also observed oozing from his nose.

Two sticks suspected to have been used as murder weapons were recovered near the body.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear. The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was moved to Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

    Authorities say investigations are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Kimaeti Sub-County, Bungoma County, have launched investigations into a suspected murder following the death of a 47-year-old woman under troubling circumstances.

According to the police, the body of Janet Nasimiyu Wafula was found at Siboti Dispensary, where she had been receiving treatment.

Police officers who visited the facility established that the deceased had been brought there unconscious on April 21 at around 7:30 a.m. by two unidentified individuals.

She remained under medical care until April 22 at about 9:00 a.m., when she was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Wafula had been working as a casual labourer for a relative in the Mayanja Kibuke area. It is alleged that she was attacked and gang raped by four unknown assailants who fled the scene after the incident.

Police processed the scene and collected a vaginal swab for DNA analysis as part of ongoing investigations aimed at identifying the suspects.

The body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Authorities say efforts are underway to trace the suspects and piece together the events leading to her death.
