Police in Nyamira South Sub-County launched investigations into a suspected murder after an elderly woman was found dead under unclear circumstances in Bokiambori Sub-location.
The incident was reported on Thursday at around 10:30 a.m.
The body of 82-year-old Teresia Nyanchama was discovered lying outside a homestead belonging to a man identified as Sylvester Moracho in Materio Village, West Mugirango Location, approximately four kilometres from the police station.
Police visited the scene and found the body lying on grass. The deceased had visible injuries, including blood oozing from the left ear and a wound on the knee. Ants were also observed on the body, particularly around the mouth and eyes.
Authorities noted that occupants of the homestead where the body was found were missing at the time of the discovery.
The scene was processed and documented by crime scene investigators from Nyamira, and the body was moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and to trace the occupants of the homestead.
