15 election observers are in the country courtesy of COMESA to oversee the August poll.
The nominees from Egypt, Congo, Eritrea, Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and the COMESA secretariat are being led by Ambassador Simbi Mubako, Zimbabwe’s former Minster for Justice.
“The team will observe the various stages including vote counting and declaration of election results,” said Mwangi Gakunga.

Gakunga who is COMESA’s Corporate Communications Manager,said the team would issue a statement on its findings and later a report with its recommendations..
The 15 member team will meet key election stakeholders ‘to understand their level of preparedness as well as the political environment.’
Former US Secretary of State, John Kerry will also also be in the country leading a team of international election observers.
