Emiliano Buendía Stati, born on 25 December 1996 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, is a professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Argentina national team.

Known for his creativity, dribbling skills, vision, and technical ability, the playmaker has established himself as a dynamic presence in European football.

He moved to Spain at a young age, developing through academies there before making a name in English football.

Siblings

Emiliano is the eldest of three brothers. His younger siblings are Agustín and Joaquín.

The family moved from Argentina to Spain when Emiliano was around 13, with his brothers later joining them.

Career

Buendía began his youth career in Argentina with Cadetes de San Martín before moving to Spain, where he joined Real Madrid’s youth setup briefly and then Getafe.

He made his senior debut for Getafe in 2014 and had a loan spell at Cultural Leonesa.

In 2018, he transferred to Norwich City for around £1.5 million, where he became a star, helping the club achieve two promotions to the Premier League.

His standout performances earned him a club-record £33 million move to Aston Villa in 2021.

At Villa, he has faced injury challenges, including a significant ACL injury, but has shown resilience with a loan to Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 before returning.

He has featured prominently in Villa’s midfield, contributing to their European campaigns, and earned senior caps for Argentina after earlier youth representation with Spain.

Accolades

With Norwich City, Buendía won two EFL Championship titles (2018–19 and 2020–21) and was named EFL Championship Player of the Season and Team of the Season in 2020–21, along with Norwich City Player of the Season.

At Aston Villa, he contributed to winning the UEFA Europa League in 2025–26, where he was named man of the match in the final, and has received individual recognition such as BBC or Guinness Goal of the Month awards.
