French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Kenya next month, State House has confirmed.

In a Tweet through its official Twitter handle on Monday, State House revealed that French Ambassador to Kenya Aline Meneger confirmed Macron’s visit today when she paid a courtesy call to President Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

During the meeting, President Kenyatta said he looked forward to hosting Macron.

Kenyatta expects the visit to break new ground in the bilateral relations between Kenya and France.

“Traditionally, Kenya and France enjoy strong bilateral ties and I am pleased that we’ve continued to deepen the relations. I look forward to the visit by President Macron,” President Kenyatta said.

In December last year, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma hinted that the country expects to host France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella.

She stated that Macron is expected to deliberate on Kenya driving the global climate agenda thanks to it emerging as the world environmental capital.

“President Macron will come to attend the United Nations Environmental Assembly of the UNEP from March 11 to 15, 2019. We also expect that he and Uhuru Kenyatta will co-host the summit on One Planet Summit during the same time and the primary outcome of this will be Kenya driving the global environmental agenda,” said Juma.
