The term of the Inspector general of police has come to an end today.
The IG is not eligible for another term as the constitution stipulates that the holder of the position will serve a fixed four year term.
Boinet took over from former IG David Kimaiyo who had resigned in December 2014.
His achievements
Bridged the gaps within the security sector, Boinnet embarked on the process of establishing new command structures at the grassroots.
With these reforms, each of the country’s 290 constituencies or sub-counties was named a police division under the command of the sub-county police commander.
He also converted the chief camps that were previously manned by Administartion police to police posts in a bid to boost command levels at the grassroot areas.
He also place the administration police and the Kenya police under a single police unit to harmonize operations.

Boinet will be expected to receive the National police service Chairman, Eliud Kinuthia who was recently appointed alongside the commissioners of the National police service commission.
The new NPSC chairman will appoint the new Inspector General who will operate in acting capacity.
Reports indicate that other than his two deputies, the other candidates in pole position to replace Boinnet include National Police Service spokesman Charles Owino Wahong’o, Government spokesperson Erick Kiraithe and DCI boss George Kinoti.
