The EU has distanced itself from declaring the August 8 elections free and fair. Through the chief observer from the EU observer mission Marietje Schaake said that they did not rubber stamp the elections .

She said that the preliminary statements were pointed towards election day which she said was calm.

She said that in her speeches she made statements on the rushed timelines, unprepared timelines, use of technology, the abuse of state resources among other irregularities.

The Europe Union insists that their observers are Independent and impartial and have no preference of who wins but deeply care towards the rights of every Kenyan.

Speaking to NTV, the chief observer said that they made statements on timely uploading of forms and condemned the revocation of licenses for NGOs saying that they underlined the critical roles of the civil society in the electoral processes.

The EU Chief observer says they made statements at different points in time during the election week but it is disappointing that only one sentence was taken from their preliminary statement.
