Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has called for unity within the Luo community, urging leaders and supporters to rally behind President William Ruto while defending recent remarks made by Winnie Odinga directed at Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.

In a strongly worded statement, Kidero said Winnie Odinga’s comments were a legitimate reminder that the National Treasury is a constitutional office focused on public service rather than political contests.

He argued that Kenyans are grappling with the high cost of living and economic uncertainty, adding that Mbadi’s focus should remain on implementing policies that ease the burden on ordinary citizens.

“The people expect leadership, solutions, and measurable results,” Kidero said.

At the same time, the former governor urged leaders within the Luo community to respect Raila Odinga, whom he described as a towering political figure whose contribution to democracy and national cohesion remains unmatched.

Kidero noted that many leaders, including Mbadi, rose politically under Raila’s mentorship and guidance, warning against attempts to undermine the ODM leader’s legacy.

“Raila Odinga is not merely a political figure; he is an institution whose contribution to democracy, national cohesion, and the empowerment of the Luo community and Kenya at large remains unparalleled,” he said.

He further cautioned against political divisions within the community, saying unity was critical for maintaining influence and securing development opportunities.

Kidero also called on the Luo community to strategically support President Ruto, saying such unity would strengthen the region’s bargaining power at the national level.

“As Luos, this is the moment to rise above division, ego, and political rivalry,” he said. “A divided community weakens itself; a united people command respect, influence, and progress.”

The statement comes amid growing political debate within ODM circles following Winnie Odinga’s remarks on Mbadi’s role in government and the broader direction of Luo politics after Raila’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
