Filip Forsberg is a Swedish professional ice hockey player recognized as one of the NHL’s most dynamic and consistent left wingers.

Born on August 13, 1994, in Östervåla, Sweden, he plays for the Nashville Predators, where he serves as an alternate captain.

Known for his speed, powerful shot, playmaking ability, and two-way play, Forsberg has become the face of the Predators franchise and one of the top Swedish-born scorers in league history.

Siblings

Filip Forsberg comes from a hockey family as the older son of Patrik Forsberg and Carina Dahlberg.

Filip has one younger brother, Fredrik Forsberg, who is also a professional hockey player currently competing in Swedish leagues, including with organizations like Björklöven.

Career

Forsberg developed through the youth system of Leksands IF in Sweden before being selected 11th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

In April 2013, the Predators acquired him in a major trade involving Martin Erat.

He made his NHL debut in the 2013–14 season and quickly established himself as a cornerstone player.

Over more than a decade with Nashville, Forsberg has delivered consistent high-level production, multiple 30-plus goal seasons, and strong playoff performances.

He has helped lead the team to key milestones, including a Presidents’ Trophy and deep postseason runs.

Internationally, he has represented Sweden at various levels, contributing to World Junior Championship and senior World Championship appearances.

Off the ice, he married country artist Erin Alvey (now Erin Forsberg) and the couple welcomed a son, Felix, adding a new chapter to his life centered around family in Nashville.

Accolades

Forsberg was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2015 and has appeared in multiple NHL All-Star Games, including in 2024.

In 2024, he was selected to the NHL Second All-Star Team.

He has also claimed NHL Rookie of the Month honors and consistently ranks among the league’s top goal scorers.

Internationally, Forsberg earned recognition as the Best Forward at the 2012 IIHF World U18 Championship and multiple World Junior All-Star Team selections.

He holds several franchise records with the Predators and has climbed the all-time lists for Swedish-born players in categories such as career goals.
