A fire broke out at the Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company offices destroying property.
The incident happened Saturday May 10, 2025 at night.
Police said no injuries were reported but property were destroyed. The cause of the fire at the Mombasa’s Central Business District was not immediately known.
County Emergency Teams, backed by crucial support from the Kenya Navy and Kenya Ports Authority managed to contain the fire more than an hour later.
Three county fire engines were on site and effectively supported by our national partners to preserve life and property, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said.
He reassured locals of continued supply of water even after the incident.
“The County Government reassures residents that service continuity is assured. All critical data is securely backed up on cloud-based systems, and this unfortunate incident will not disrupt the delivery of services,” he said.
Witnesses said the fire caused panic in the area as it spread fast before emergency response teams arrived.
Senior government officials led by County Secretary Jeizan Faruk, alongside Chief Officers Swaleh Mwalizuma, Ali Abdulrahman, Albert Keno and MOWASSCO MD Farah Abdirahim were on the ground supervising the response.
Incident Commanders Ibrahim Basafar and Central OCPD Maxwell Agoro led operations at the scene. Also present and supportive were Mombasa Women Rep Zamzam Mohamed and area MCA Abdirahman Hussein.
