Five people were shot and injured in Migori Town in a clash between the supporters of the local governor and a Member of Parliament.

The clashes pitied supporters of governor Ochilo Ayako and Suna West MP Peter Masara and the drama happened on February 13, 2026. It was the second time the groups clashed after a previous day’s drama at a burial event in Oruba, Suna, Migori County.

On Friday February 13, police said Ayako was addressing the business community at Migori Malindi Market within Migori Town when Masara arrived at the same venue with his supporters prompting a confrontation.

Security officials present drew their guns and shot, leaving five people with life threatening wounds.

The victims were shot in the armpit, legs, ribs, shoulder and hands. A sixth person had multiple injuries after being assaulted.

They were all rushed to hospitals and admitted as the two leaders were led out of the scene.

Police said they are investigating the incident and were looking for the MP Masara for grilling.

On February 12, the bodyguards attached to the officials shot to the air to scare the supporters who were pelting stones and twigs at each other, police and witnesses said of the incident in Kamadaga area.

Witnesses said both governor Ochilo Ayako and Suna West MP Peter Masara were attending a burial event in the area when the drama broke out.

The witnesses said Masara grabbed a microphone from Ayako as he gave his speech which angered his supporters on the ground.

This degenerated into chaos and running battles as groups fought with the leaders taking cover. This led to their bodyguards remove their guns and shoot to the air.

Police who were manning the event also joined in efforts to restore calm and chased the rowdy groups before the burial proceeded.

The local police said they were investigating the incident and that some of the mourners were injured in the drama.

The governor later made a report at Migori police station about the incident. He said his supporters were assaulted at the funeral and that some of their cars were damaged maliciously.

The MP did not make any report at the station. The clashes extended to the following day.

Political temperatures are rising in the area amid fears of more chaos in the coming days.

Ayako is seeking re-election hence the tension. Police say most parts of the country are experiencing a rise in political chaos amid efforts to solve them.
